Visit Kansas City for more than just the Kansas City Royals.

Holy smokes it is baseball season and the time has rolled around for Missouri vs Missouri - the Kansas City Royals vs St Louis Cardinals in Kansas City, Missouri.

Confession - I am a Cardinal fan, but ya know I cheer for the Kansas City Royals - because I am a Missouri Girl at heart.

Now I know several of you will be heading I-70 to watch this great rivalry; I am a tad jealous as I won't be!  However, being that I have been to Kansas City - I thought I would take a moment to share some great places for you to visit while you there!

Have you come nose to nose with the great polar bear at the Kansas City Zoo?  If not you are
missing something.  Kansas City Zoo is one of my favorite zoos to visit; it is small, yet offers a wide variety of animals and activities.  There are few places that you can safely get close to wild animals - and the Kansas City Zoo is one of them.

If you are an animal lover; like me!  Another must stop is the Sea Life Aquarium - we absolutely loved Sea Life.  In fact my son who was then 4 and is now 7 still talks about walking through the tunnel under the fish and petting the starfish - amazing how those little things really stick with them!

Next door to Sea Life is LEGOLAND - need I say more?  LEGOLAND  is a giant playground for LEGO lovers!  You build, you play, you build some more, and then you are so exhausted you pass out on your way home!

On the artsy side? Check the schedule for some FREE fun at the Hallmark Kaleidoscope  in Kansas City Missouri.  Kaleidoscope is probably the most colorful place in Kansas City.

Are you a history buff?  If so I suggest stopping at Steamboat Arabia Museum in Kansas City - maybe not the most known history, but it is truly unique the way the have preserved the remains of the Steamboat Arabia and all the treasures they found on board!

I have heard, but not discovered that the Toy & Miniature Museum of Kansas City is absolutely fantastic also - my friend Chris Bird (Standby Traveling Mom) suggest it among 2 other Edu-tainment Must-Do’s in Kansas City!

If you are out for some exciting fun or summer fun, we went to Oceans of Fun in Kansas City - and it is totally worth the stop and splash!

If that is not enough........

Wagon tour of Independence, MO
Just outside of Kansas City, Missouri sits the small town of Independence, Missouri.  Independence Missouri is jammed pack full of adventure, history, and culture.  Honestly I suggest you plan at least a full day if not two if you plan to visit Independence.

In Independence, Missouri you can learn the history of the Mormon Church, take a tour of Harry S Truman's life, and learn to make your own puppet at  Puppetry Arts Institute .

Where is your favorite place to hang your hat in Kansas City?  Have I missed a great attraction - if so do share!

Harry S. Truman Library and Museum in Independence Mo

Friends, today I would like to be spending it running in circles at the Harry S Truman Library Museum in Independence, MO.  Do you know why?  Because the “Buck Stops Here”…You got it folks, this state of an art museum has something for everyone and you could truly spend hours roaming through it.

This past Summer when it was warm outside…sighhh…The kiddos and I had the opportunity to spend a few hours at the Truman Museum and as you know my sidekicks are often  have 10 X more energy than I do and  they loved this place.  They loved it so much that they begged to stay and then begged to go back.

Sea Life Aquarium Kansas City, MO

As I flipped through pictures tonight D-man yelled “Mom, there is that favorite place we went on bacation!”…love the words that come out of my 5 year old's mouth.  I also often wonder how many favorite places he happens to have, but tonight his favorite place was Sea Life in Kansas City, MO.
I can always tell how big of an impact a place had on my kids by how long they continue to talk about the place.  It has been 9 months since we visited SeaLife Aquarium in Kansas City, Mo and with just one image, D-man could tell me all the details of our visit.  To word it exact he loved watching the jellyfish, seahorses, touching the slimey things, and the stingrays were cool too….I would say Sea Life also educated my little man.

With over 5,000 sea creatures and 260,000 gallons of water we had the opportunity to get up close and personal to sharks, hold crabs, touch starfish, make our imaginations explode while watching seahorses, and stand in awe as we watched the beautiful yet poisonous jellyfish.

Sea Life Aquarium in Kansas City is not an all day adventure, the aquarium is perfect for a rainy afternoon adventure, cool when it is too hot to play outside, and a great place to kill a few hours.

The aquarium is located next to LEGOLAND and in the Kansas City Crown Center
With smiles and giggles, Sea Life Aquarium in Kansas City, Mo earns this Traveling Mom’s seal of approval!

Have an Adventurous Day!

Disclosure:  Our visit to the Sea Life Aquarium in Kansas City was sponsored by the Kansas City Tourism office.  A big thank you to them for giving us the opportunity to visit, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own (or my children's)!
