Changing Your Perspective will Change Your Life

It is easy to see everything that is bad in your life - especially if things don't happen to be going your way.   However, we are the maker of our own happiness; even when our life is falling apart.

I read this verse today and it really spoke to me, really put into perspective of how you are the maker of your own happiness.

"Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is bad, your body is filled with darkness.”
Luke 11:34 NLT

For me; I had to break this verse down and really understand what it meant - put it on my own level to think about how my thinking changes how I feel.

Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body.

The way we see things is the way we feel - if we see the good in things we feel better about the situation.

Here is my own example - my furnace is out in my house, my landlord and their crew have been working  at getting it fixed, we have had about 10 different plumbers, heating guys, and repair guys in and out of our house - but it has been a struggle.  Now I could be roaring mad, throwing a fit, but what good would that do?  My house has not been terribly cold, I have a backup source of heat, and I have a warm bed to sleep in - which is more than millions of people can say.

You have to look at the whole picture of what your life really has - even at the worst of times you are STILL BLESSED.

When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light.

You have seen those people that just absolutely glow with happiness, when they enter the room the entire mood changes.  Well that just don't happen; the cause of that is the way they see the world - they see the good in the world and their body, life, and eyes display that.  You can be that person also - I want to be that person.

But when it is bad, your body is filled with darkness.

Bitterness is an illness, or at least causes illness - when you are filled with hate you feel like hate.  I have seen people so full of hate and bitterness that they absolutely make themselves sick.  Their lives fall apart, their relationships fail, and they just cannot carry on.

Your emotions or the way you see things really affect you completely; it is not easy at first to change your perspective on life but it is doable - I am living proof.

Steps to Change:

1.  Stop before you speak - that person may have just cut in line, bumped you wrong, or ruined your day.   Before you SNAP, think about what is going on in their life, why are they rushing, is their life worse than yours - possibly.

2.  Count to Ten before you move - we are human we become angry, but before we move into action count to ten, reset yourself, and then proceed.

3.  Put God first in your life - this is a given, but many don't get it.  We have faith, but do we really set time apart for God.  I admit this was my downfall to life - I would forget about studying my Bible and spending time daily in worship - then when I saw my flaw and fixed it, I had a new peace in my life.
